The father of Chukwudi Onuamadike, a notorious, high-profile kidnap kingpin, popularly called Evans on Wednesday called on the Inspector General of Police to release his son. Evan’s father identified as Stephen Onuamadike was present at the premises of a Federal High Court in Lagos to personally depose to the suit against the IGP calling for the release of his son. The Nigeria Customs Service and the Rice Farmers Association of Nigeria (RIFAN) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to stop rice smuggling through land border into the country. Alhaji Aminu Goronyo, President Rice Farmers Association of Nigeria (RIFAN), disclosed this on Wednesday in Abuja. He said even though the importation of rice through the land borders was banned since April 2016 with an extension to the restriction of rice into the Nigerian market from the Export Processing Zones (EPZ), yet smugglers still engaged in the unwholesome act. Billionaire kidnapper, Chukwumeme Onwuamadike aka Evans, yesterday recanted his story that the bullet wound on his shoulder was from a drug war in South Africa. The suspect withdrew his earlier narrative after investigators presented him with allegations made against him by a retired police officer in a national daily. Evans told his interrogators that he got the wound from a gang member during a disagreement in the sharing formula of the heist from a bank raid in 2006. The suspect also admitted he was arrested by the police after the shootout among his robbery gang members. He added that his mother, with the help of a policewoman, got him released from police custody 11 years ago. Security agencies in Bayelsa State have started an investigation into the identity of a man named Suoyo whom Evans the Kidnapper mentioned as one of his gang members in the state. In one of his numerous confessional statements, Evans the kidnapper said Suoyo is one of the most active members of his gang, who had the job of buying arms and ammunition, for their operations. The Federal Government said it is strategising to surpass Ghana in the export of yam to Europe and other continents. The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Chief Audu Ogbeh said this when he received the Technical Committee on Nigeria Yam Export Programme in Abuja. Ogbeh said the programme to be flagged off on June 29, would enable the country earn foreign exchange from agricultural produce in order to substitute the oil and gas sector. Femi Falana, human rights lawyer, says a federal high court never ruled that the national assembly had power to increase estimates of the appropriation act. He was reacting to a claim by the house of representatives that “the federal high court has ruled that the national assembly has the power to increase or review upward the budget estimates laid before it by the executive”. Last week, the senate and the house issued statements flaying Babatunde Fashola, minister of works, power and housing, for saying that the national assembly introduced new projects into the 2017 budget. The minister was also reported to have said that the legislature indiscriminately reduced the budgetary allocations of some projects, and that a judicial remedy might be sought to determine if the national assembly had the power to increase budget estimates. Police are on the hunt for another soldier, believed to be a member of the gang run by suspected kidnap kingpin, Chukwudumeje George Onwuamadike aka Evans. According to The Nation, the soldier whose identity is yet to be revealed, was attached to one of the Army formations in Lagos. A source revealed the police have the soldier’s names and pictures and would leave no stone unturned in arresting him.  “He should have been arrested on Saturday night but we believe he might have gone into hiding after his colleague, Victor Chukwunonso, was caught. That was why the police high command did not want to release information on the arrest of Chukwunonso because there are so many others being investigated.  “But I know he would be caught. The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has commenced issuing loans to farmers, manufacturers, cottage industries, among others, to boost local production in Anambra State. Senator Abubakar Danladi The Supreme Court has, Friday, sacked the Senator representing Taraba North in the Senate,  Abubakar Danladi and asked him to return all salaries he had collected before his sacking. Danladi was ordered to refund all salaries and allowances he received within 90 days. Mr. Danladi was sacked by the Supreme Court on the same day a member of the House of Representatives, Herman Hembe, was also sacked by the apex court. The court also declared Alhaji Shuaibu Isa Lau, as the senator to represent the constituency. Both Danladi and Isa Lau are members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. The Supreme Court also ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to withdraw the certificate issued to Danladi and issue a fresh certificate of return to Lau.
